Shackleton Vest
Shackleton Vest
eine lang geschnittene Arbeitsweste, deren Vorbild weiter unten von Aero selber beschrieben wird. Hier ist sie in brown tumbled horsehide abgebildet, mit einem Rückenstück aus braunem Tweed.
This is the first garment from Aero based on clothing from the Edwardian era. We’ve model our typical expedition waistcoat on one worn by members of the Nimrod expedition to the South pole.
The crew were let by Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton, an Anglo- Irish polar explorer, who, in all, led three British expeditions to the Antarctic and was one of the principal figures of the period known as the Heroic Age of Antarctic. Our waistcoat is cut from Tumbled Horsehide, chosen for it’s waterproof qualities, lined in heavy cotton ticking with a heavy tweed back for warmth and fitted with larger than usual buttons and buttonholes for ease of use while wearing gloves. It’s cut higher at the front and with more length than a suit waistcoat, while the pockets are deeper and more practical than those found in most waistcoats
Typically, back in the day, this type of garment was worn a part of layering against the elements, probably over a Harris Tweed roll neck and under a heavy duty jacket but our stylish waistcoat would be no less effective as a three season garment worn over a shirt as protection from the chill of evening.
